Types of Neck Pain

Many people experience neck pain as a general pain located in the neck area, as well as stiffness of the neck muscles. Pain can sometimes radiate down to the shoulder or between the shoulder blades. Neck pain can also radiate out into the arm, the hand or up into the head.

Acute Neck Pain

Sudden and intense neck pain, or acute neck pain, is often related to wry neck, facet syndrome or muscular rheumatism.

Chronic Neck Pain

Pain that has lasted more than three months is classified as chronic neck pain.

How common is neck pain?

Most people experience neck pain at some point in their life. It is a common condition and is more frequently seen in women than men.

What causes neck pain?

There are many things that can cause neck pain including:

  • Trauma
  • Injury
  • Stress, Worry and Anxiety
  • Bad posture, especially when sleeping
  • A badly configured workstation
  • Carrying heavy bags

Often it is hard to diagnose the exact cause of neck pain.Each case is different, and rather than relying on services self or online diagnosis, it is recommended to see a trained specialist (Chiropractors, Myotherapists etc) about your ongoing neck pain.
